Wild Yam & Partridge Berry Herbal Tonic

This recipe can be used daily as a general hormone balancing tea which can help regulate hormones throughout the month helping to avoid fluctuating hormonal swings that can happen throughout the monthly cycle.  This can be particularly helpful for women who suffer with PMS to help to keep the hormones balanced and help to regulate emotions which can be affected due to the disruption fluctuating hormones can have on emotional well-being.


Wild Yam is believed to behave in a similar way as the natural estrogen our bodies produce and help to balance our hormone levels and help regulate mood to avoid mood swings throughout the month as hormones change through the monthly cycle.  Partridge Berry is effective in helping to balance hormones due to its tonic actions on the womb and uterus. Cramp Bark as the name suggests is an effective anti-spasmodic that can help alleviate menstrual cramping and pain associated with periods.


True Unicorn has so many benefits for women its properties include being a uterine tonic, emmenagogue, ovarian adaptogenic, diuretic, emetic, anthelmintic.  It can help regulate the hormonal cycle as well as helping with irregular menstruation, vaginal discharge and pelvic congestion.


Our monthly cycles can be a source of frustration and anxiety for many women but herbal hormonal balancing tonics like this Wild Yam and Partridge Berry herbal tonic can help to balance fluctuating hormones.

INGREDIENTS

30g (2 tablespoons) -  Partridge Berry (Squaw Vine Herb) (Mitchella Repens)


7g (1 teaspoon) -  Cramp or Black Haw Bark (Viburnum Trilobum; V.Prunifolium)


7g (1 teaspoon) - True Unicorn Root (Aletris Farinosa)


7g (1 teaspoon) -  Wild Yam Root (Dioscorea Villosa)


1 ½ pints - Distilled water

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Mix the the herbs together.


  • Add 1 teaspoon of the mixed herbs to 1 cup of boiling water.


  • Leave to steep for 20 minutes.


  • Strain the liquid.


  • Allow to cool.


  • Bottle and store in a cool place.

DOSAGE

  • Take 2 - 3 tablespoon 3 times per day. 

SIDE EFFECTS

Although most herbs are generally considered safe to use there is the slight possibility of allergic reactions or adverse reactions when used with other medication although this is rare.


Partridge Berry is considered safe to use but should be avoided if pregnant or breastfeeding.  Due to its estrogenic properties Wild Yam should not be used in hormone sensitive conditions such as breast cancer, prostate cancer, endometriosis, or uterine fibroids.  True Unicorn is generally considered safe for general use, however in large doses can cause nausea and vomiting. Cramp Bark is also considered safe to use, but should be avoided if pregnant and/or breastfeeding.
