Syrup of Motherwort

Whilst all women want regular pain, free periods unfortunately that’s not the case for many women. Syrup of Motherwort is an excellent remedy for women and girls who suffer with irregular periods particularly in the case of periods being late for reasons other than pregnancy. There are many reasons why women may have late periods such as stress, birth control, conditions such as PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome), weight gain and peri-menopause are just some examples.


Syrup of Motherwort can help to bring on late periods due to its excellent emmenagogue properties, it’s also an excellent uterine tonic helping to regulate menstruation and bring on delayed periods.  It can also help to reduce period pains and muscle cramping that often accompanies late periods. 


Motherwort as the name suggests is a really wonderful herb for women so it’s no wonder this Syrup of Motherwort is a staple remedy for so many women.

INGREDIENTS

105g (7 tablespoons) -  Motherwort Herb (Leonurus Cardiaca)


1 ½ pints - Distilled Water


1lb (1 ⅓ cups) - Honey (2 lbs of raw sugar can be use instead of honey)

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Place the herbs into 1 ½ pints of cold water.


  • Cover and leave to soak for 6 hours.


  • Bing the solution to the boil and simmer for 20 minutes.


  • Strain the liquid into a clean container and add the honey.


  • Stir until honey has dissolved.


  • Leave to cool before bottling.


  • Store in a cool place. 

DOSAGE

  • Take 1 tablespoon 3 to 4 times per day. 

SIDE EFFECTS

Although most herbs are generally considered safe to use there is the slight possibility of allergic reactions or adverse reactions when used with other medication although this is rare.


Motherwort is not advised for use if pregnant or breastfeeding and also for people taking blood thinners, aspirin, garlic, willow bark, vitamin E in supplement form, or people with clotting disorders.
