Horehound & Elecampane Herbal Tea

Respiratory tract infections covers a range of infections and viruses such as colds, flu, chest infections, bronchitis, they can affect the sinuses, throat, airways and lungs.  Common symptoms of a respiratory tract infection include headaches, high temperature, blocked or runny nose, coughing either dry or bringing up phlegm (mucus), sneezing, sore throat, aching muscles, tightness around the chest, breathlessness or wheezing and generally feeling unwell.


Bronchitis is a form of respiratory tract infection, it occurs when tubes called bronchial tubes which are responsible for transporting air from trachea (windpipe) to your lungs become inflamed causing mucus to build up in the lungs.  Whilst it is often a minor illness it can become more serious, symptoms of bronchitis include low fever, shortness of breath, fatigue, tightness across the chest and coughing, it can be caused by a virus, bacteria or by chemical irritants.


Most bronchial infections will get better after a few days, herbs can make great natural remedies to soothe and ease symptoms of bronchitis and also speed up recovery.

INGREDIENTS

15g (1 tablespoon) - Horehound (Marrubium Vulgare)


15g (1 tablespoon) - Boneset (Eupatorium Perfoliatum)


15g (1 tablespoon) - Coltsfoot (Tussilago Farfara)


8g (1 teaspoon) - Elecampane Root (Inula helenium)


8g (1 teaspoon) - Ginger (Zingiber Officinalis)


8g (1 teaspoon) - Acid tincture of Lobelia (Lobelia Inflata)

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Place the Horehound, Boneset, Coltsfoot and Elecampane Root  in 1 ½ pints of boiling water, slowly simmer for 20 minutes.


  • Strain the liquid and poor over the ginger.


  • Sweeten with a little honey.


  • Leave to cool before adding the acid tincture of Lobelia and bottling.


  • Store in a cool place.

DOSAGE

  • Take 2 tablespoons every 2 - 3 hours
